Rob’s Testimony

My name is Robert Christoforo and I am a recovering drug addict. Growing up my mom decided that she didn’t want to be a mother anymore and walked out of our family. Two years after that, my dad had a massive heart attack and passed away. After my dad died, I started using drugs everyday. I used drugs to escape reality and not feel anything. Over the next fifteen years I used drugs everyday from popping pills to shooting crystal meth. My life was filled with misery and chaos because of my drug use. While I was in my drug addiction, I had two kids and because of my drug addiction I wasn’t much of a father. I wanted to be a good father but I just couldn’t quit using drugs. I started trying to get clean by going to treatment. I would do really good while I was in treatment and do good for a month or two after I left treatment, but then I would relapse. Over a few years this would happen again and again and again with me going to treatment, getting out, and then relapsing. I asked myself many times why couldn’t I stay clean? What was wrong with me? I knew of God, but I didn’t know God, or anything about what He could do in my life if I let him. Growing up I didn’t go to church or have someone in my life to tell me about Jesus. I met a guy name Willy and he was full of Jesus. He told me what Jesus had done in his life and how Jesus delivered him from drugs. At this point in my life I still wasn’t ready to really surrender my life to Jesus. I started using drugs again and this time it got so bad that I almost committed suicide. I had lost everything once again with no job, no place to live, and nobody to turn to. At this moment in my life I knew the only way that I was going to have a better life and be able to be delivered  from drug addiction was through Jesus Christ. December 1, 2017 I went to treatment and while I was in treatment I started reading the bible. God started to show me that everything was going to be okay. I knew that I needed God to be in my life and I started praying while I was in treatment to help me find a Christian program for when I left treatment. By the end of treatment God had answer my prayers. I was told about a program called the Renewal House. A faith based program that would help you get on your feet and it was run by Godly men. The Renewal House has made the biggest difference in my recovery today. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to help me get on my feet. Since I have been in the Renewal House, I have been able to get closer to God and be around guys that are heading in the same direction. God has given me so much since I have been at the Renewal House and most important, He has given me the strength to not use drugs, taking it one day at a time and asking God to give me strength to do his will everyday. Today I know who I am through Jesus Christ and his love for me. It’s amazing how God led me to the Renewal House and has given me so much. I have a good job, a relationship with my kids, and have Godly men in my life that I can go to for advice and leadership. Today, I continue to work my program and put God first and allow him to lead me in the right direction while I remain at the Renewal House.I am very grateful for the Renewal House program and  the Godly men that are over the house. Thank you so much Dr. Edney, Mr. Jim, and Mr. Trey.
